All too often we only set aside one time per year to really, truly give thanks for all we have. Even those who feel they don’t have a lot have one thing we should all be thankful for; the gift of life. Beauty is all around us and if we can capture that sense of continued awe when we stop, take a breath, and appreciate all of the things we enjoy but take for granted, the world instantly looks like a better place.
Gratitude and appreciation is truly the conduit to happiness, a sense of purpose, and a fuller life. I’ve been meaning to start a gratitude journal now, and the idea struck me that it would be even more powerful to share it and inspire others to do the same. My aim is to find one thing to be grateful for each day which will force me to dig deeper to see tiny details that make our lives great but go overlooked.
Without further ado:
#ThankfulThursday – 10/8 – 10/14/2015
Today I’m thankful for…
10/8/2015 – Waze.
It would be amazing to see how much time Waze, the traffic monitoring app, has saved the world. Waze also allows for more intelligent utilization of our roads and highways (reducing overall congestion) and routes us around heavy traffic. Thanks for keeping road rage at a minimum.
10/9/2015 – Moments of Clarity.
Every once in awhile it feels like the stars align and your thinking becomes crystal clear. These moments are powerful and can lead us to revelatory insights about ourselves and the world.
10/10/2015 – Bluetooth.
Bluetooth is one of those deceptively powerful technologies that can do so many things. From wireless music in my car to controlling remote controlled cars with AI and drones – Bluetooth is awesome tech.
10/11/2015 – Laser Cutters.
I really love creating and building things – and one of the most amazing tools to do exactly that are laser cutters. My friends at Glowforge just launched the best laser cutter yet – making it easier than ever to create with lasers. Their pre-order campaign has blown it out of the water, we $13M in orders with 5 days left.
10/12/2015 – Power Grid.
The power grid we use so heavily is a modern miracle. It’s relatively low tech and electricity is used within a second of it being generated. Even more amazingly – without batteries or other storage capabilities, the amount of power generated must match demand precisely to avoid overloads or outages.
10/13/2015 – Moore’s Law.
Moore’s Law was described in 1965 that the number of transistors on an integrated circuit will double approximately every two years. This exponential trend, which has proven true for the next 50 years,
10/14/2015 – Startup Accelerators.
In our connected world it’s easier than ever to start a business that will change the world. Today we learned we’ll be part of the next Batch for the 9Mile Labs Accelerator in Seattle. Startup accelerators are structured programs that provide an investment and provide you with office space, mentorship, and a structured program intended to help you improve your product and grow quickly.
Your turn
I’m always looking for more inspiration, so tell me, what’s one thing you’re grateful for from the past week? I’ll share a few submissions during next week’s post and intend to keep that going all year long. While I love #ThrowbackThursday, I’d love to see #ThankfulThursday take off too.
The more we can say thanks, the better off we’ll be. Especially because we don’t know if we’ll be able to say “thanks” to those we care about tomorrow or to those who’ve touched us that we’ll never cross paths with again – why wait?
“Of all the attitudes we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing.” —
